Leonie Howe

Dr Leonie Howe is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Greenwich, affiliated with the School of Law and Criminology within the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She holds a BA, MPhil, and PhD, along with a PG Cert in academic credentials.

Her research focuses on comparative criminal justice systems, coronial reform, deaths and self-injury in custody, honour killings, and race-related crime. She has contributed to significant policy inquiries, including submissions to the Joint Committee on Human Rights and Deaths in Custody.

Her publications span criminal law analysis, forensic practice critiques, and systemic reform advocacy. Notable works include studies on insanity defence mechanisms and mandatory sentencing impacts in the Northern Territory.

Leonie supervises BA and MSc dissertation students and serves as Criminology Disability Support Tutor. She maintains professional ties with the British Society of Criminology, CrimNet (University of Sydney), and StopWatch.
