Leonard Abbeduto

Dr. Leonard Abbeduto is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California, Davis, and the Director of the UC Davis MIND Institute. His research focuses on language development across the lifespan in individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, particularly in fragile X syndrome, autism, and Down syndrome. He has authored over 200 peer-reviewed articles and secured continuous NIH funding since 1985. His current work emphasizes language outcomes, clinical trial methodologies, and telehealth interventions.

Education: B.A. (1975), M.A. (1979), and Ph.D. (1982) in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He has held leadership roles including Director of the NIH-funded MIND Institute IDDRC and co-director of the Redwood SEED Scholars program.

Research Interests: Language development in neurodevelopmental disorders, family dynamics in developmental disabilities, and translational research for clinical interventions. Key areas include measuring treatment efficacy, distance technology for behavioral therapy, and comorbidity between autism and fragile X syndrome.
