About
Leon van der Torre is Full Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science at the University of Luxembourg, pioneering deontic logic applications for normative multi-agent systems. His foundational contributions include input/output logic and the BOID architecture.
Education includes:
- PhD in Computer Science, Erasmus University Rotterdam (1997)
- Master in Computer Science, Erasmus University Rotterdam (1992)
Research develops formal frameworks for ethical AI, combining deontic logic, game theory, and argumentation for explainable normative reasoning. Recent work advances attack-defense argumentation semantics and permission logic formalization.
As LoDEx project collaborator, he investigates deontic reasoning systems with applications to legal AI and machine ethics during his TU Vienna sabbatical (2020/2021).
