About
Lene Juel Rasmussen is a Professor at the University of Copenhagen, affiliated with the Center for Healthy Aging and the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine. She holds a dual role as Managing Director of the Center for Healthy Aging and Professor in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. Her research focuses on DNA mismatch repair (MMR), mitochondrial dysfunction in aging and disease, and cancer genetics. Dr. Rasmussen has held academic positions at Roskilde University (2009–present as Professor, 2000–2005 as Associate Professor) and completed postdoctoral training at Harvard University and the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
Education:
- PhD in Molecular Genetics (1991), Technical University of Denmark
- MSc in Chemical Engineering (1988), Technical University of Denmark
Research Interests:
- Identification of nuclear/mitochondrial MMR proteins and diagnostic assays for HNPCC
- Mitochondrial dysfunction in diseases like Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and cancer
- Role of deoxynucleoside kinases in genomic integrity
- Age-related interventions targeting mitochondrial health
Key Collaborations: Active in international networks including the National Institute of Aging (NIA), NIEHS/NIH, and Johns Hopkins University. Research spans DNA repair, aging mechanisms, and senotherapeutic agents like fisetin.
Labs/Teams: Leads research groups at the Center for Healthy Aging and Molecular Aging Program, focusing on translating molecular insights into clinical strategies for aging-related diseases.
