Leila A. Halawi

Dr. Leila A. Halawi is a tenured Associate Professor and Research Coordinator Worldwide in the Department of Graduate Studies, College of Aviation at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. She has served as Program Chair for the Master of Science in Aviation and Aerospace Sustainability (AASI), the Graduate Certificate in Aviation and Aerospace Sustainability, and the Master of Science in Management Information Systems (MMIS), as well as MIS Discipline Chair, Chair of the Research Committee for the Senate, and Director of Research for the College of Business.

She is particularly known for her work in developing curricula using the DACUM methodology, which bridges the gap between industry needs and academic offerings in sustainability and IT/IS/MIS fields. Her research aims to prepare a workforce that meets evolving industry demands through strong academia-industry collaboration.

The recent articles highlight a clear trend toward the integration of artificial intelligence in aviation, especially concerning trust, human-robot interaction, and ethical considerations in commercial flight. Her work also explores training programs for law enforcement on uncrewed aircraft systems and the evolution of AI on the digital flight deck, indicating a growing interdisciplinary focus on technology, safety, and policy in aviation and information systems.

Dr. Halawi is involved in multiple research teams and professional networks. She leads a NIST-funded project on curriculum integration and collaborates with industry partners like SAS, Tableau, and Microsoft. She is a member of the editorial boards of EABOK (Mitre Corporation) and MERLOT, and serves as a reviewer for journals such as JCIS and IACIS, as well as conferences including ECSM, ECKM, and FEDCSIS.
