Leda Cosmides

Leda Cosmides is a Distinguished Professor of Psychological & Brain Sciences at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), affiliated with the College of Letters & Science and the Center for Evolutionary Psychology (founded with John Tooby). Her research pioneered evolutionary psychology, integrating cognitive science, anthropology, and neuroscience to study evolved cognitive mechanisms.

Education: A.B. in Biology (Harvard, 1979), Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology (Harvard, 1985), postdoctoral work under Roger Shepard at Stanford, and a Fellowship at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences.

Research focuses on evolutionary foundations of human cognition, including cooperation, coalitional psychology, moral reasoning, and emotions like anger and shame.
