Leah Lowthorp

Leah Lowthorp is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Oregon. She holds a dual degree in Folklore and Anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania, with a dissertation titled Scenarios of Endangered Culture, Shifting Cosmopolitanisms: Kutiyattam and UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in Kerala, India.

• Research focuses on postcolonial cosmopolitanism, UNESCO heritage frameworks, and cultural politics in India through Kutiyattam Sanskrit theater
• Teaches courses on globalization and the arts, ethnographic methods, South Asian folklore, gender, and social justice
• Next project explores arts patronage and commodification processes in India
