Leah Bassel

Leah Bassel is a Professor of Politics and International Studies affiliated with the Research Centre for Peace and Security. Her research focuses on migration, intersectionality, and citizenship. She has authored influential books such as Refugee Women: Beyond Gender versus Culture and co-authored Minority Women and Austerity. Bassel has led projects funded by the British Academy, ESRC, and others. Before academia, she worked as an emergency outreach worker in Paris, aiding asylum seekers and founding a refugee youth circus project.

Her expertise aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals addressing poverty, inequality, and justice. Current projects include comparative analyses of 'hailing' policies and migrant healthcare workers’ roles in Canada.
