About
Le Tian is an Honorary Research Associate at the Department of History (Historical Studies) at the University of Bristol and a member of the Bristol Doctoral College. Currently pursuing a PhD under the China Scholarship Council, he works under the supervision of Prof. Robert Bickers and Dr. Amy Edwards, focusing on the Sino-British tea trade in the early 19th century.
His research spans
- Economic and cultural history of cross-cultural trade in China's treaty ports
- Public history, including oral history and documentary films
- Historical institutions and cross-cultural communication
Le Tian's work integrates imperial and global contexts to analyze credit systems, trust-building, and merchant interactions during the early 19th century. While his primary thesis project addresses these themes, his broader research interests highlight intersections between economic practices and cultural exchanges in historical trade networks.
He previously held a research assistant position at Zhejiang University and has an MA from Sun Yat-sen University.
