Layla Saatchi

Layla Saatchi is an Assistant Professor at Wayne State University, with a dual background in Islamic Studies and Philosophy. She earned her MA in Near East Studies (2007) and PhD in Philosophy (2020) from Wayne State University, focusing on American Muslim women’s Islamic jurisprudence and reasonable peer disagreement in religious contexts, respectively.

Her teaching spans courses in Islamic and Middle East history, Islamic law, comparative religion, introduction to logic, and introduction to philosophy across Wayne State University, Eastern Michigan University, and Oakland University. Her research intersects epistemology, Islamic legal theory, and philosophical debates in religion.

She presented a talk titled "Reasonable Disagreement is Possible" at a 2021 Persian Circle event, highlighting her work on rationality in religious discourse.
