Laxmi Ramasubramanian, PhD, AICP, is a Professor and currently serves as Associate Provost for Faculty Success at College of Staten Island, CUNY. She previously held roles as Chair of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning and Interim Associate Dean for Research at San José State University’s College of Social Sciences. Her academic career includes teaching and research at Hunter College, CUNY. She earned a PhD in Environment-Behavior Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, a Master’s in City Planning from MIT, and architecture degrees from India.
Her research focuses on GIS applications in urban planning, public participation, housing policy, and community resilience. She has authored books on GIS in housing and planning methodologies, and her work addresses issues like distributed work geography, sustainable transportation, and resilience in coastal areas. She also advocates for diversity and inclusion in academia, particularly supporting first-generation faculty and underrepresented groups.

As a Principal Investigator/co-PI, she has secured over $2M in grants, including NSF-funded projects on faculty mentoring.
