Lawrence Pitzer serves as an Adjunct Instructor of Classical Guitar at Wittenberg University, where he has taught continuously since 1971. He concurrently holds faculty positions at Cedarville University (since 1985) and previously taught at Wright State University (1972-1985).
His educational foundation includes a BFA from Miami University, supplemented by specialized training in guitar under Ramon Estrada, Miguel Alboniz, and Jeffery Van. Pitzer's artistic focus centers on Classical Guitar repertoire and Early Music traditions, with deep engagement in period instrument performance. His practice encompasses lute and recorder techniques, reflecting scholarly attention to Renaissance and Baroque musical practices. This specialization manifests in both his pedagogical approach and ensemble work.
As an active performer, Pitzer co-founded the Hyland Ensemble (1985-1993) and currently contributes to Wind in the Woods, an early music collective dedicated to historically informed performance. His dual commitment to teaching and performance underscores his role in sustaining historical music traditions within contemporary academic settings.
