Dr. Lawrence Gillman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Manitoba’s Max Rady College of Medicine, where he practices as an acute care/trauma surgeon and intensivist. He is cross-appointed in Critical Care at the Max Rady College of Medicine and serves as Director of the Clinical Learning and Simulation Program. Dr. Gillman’s research bridges medical/surgical education with cutting-edge simulation technologies. His work spans technical simulation, such as virtual reality ultrasound and performance evaluation metrics, and crisis simulation, focusing on tele-resuscitation, team communication, and stress response during emergencies. He founded the national Simulated Trauma and Resuscitation Team Training (STARTT) course and authored the Trauma Team Dynamics textbook, cementing his role as a leader in simulation-based surgical training.

He also supports multidisciplinary teams in trauma care innovation. Outside academia, he is a proud parent of four energetic children.
