Lawrence Ezrow is a Professor in the Department of Government at the University of Essex. He previously served as Head of the Department of Government (2016-2019) and currently serves on the Midwest Political Science Association Council (2023-2026). His research focuses on elections, political representation, policy diffusion, populism, and European Politics. Ezrow holds a BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and an MA and Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
His research explores how political parties adapt to public opinion, election strategies, and the impact of globalization on governance. Key areas include the responsiveness of governments to voter preferences, the role of electoral systems in shaping party behavior, and the transnational influences on national party policies. His work has been published in top journals including the American Journal of Political Science and the British Journal of Political Science.
Ezrow has held visiting positions at institutions such as Dartmouth College, Nuffield College (Oxford), and the Institute for Advanced Studies in Vienna. He is an active member of professional associations, including serving as Section Chair for the 'Representation and Electoral Systems' section at the American Political Science Association (APSA).
