About
Laurent Thoraval is a Lecturer at the University of Strasbourg, affiliated with the ICube laboratory's IMAGeS team (Images, Modeling, Learning, Geometry and Statistics). His research focuses on statistical modeling and signal/image processing applied to medical imaging and time sequence analysis.
- Education: IUT of Haguenau, DUT Electrical Engineering and Industrial Computing, Professional License Electrical Systems and Industrial Networks.
His research interests include Signal and Image Processing, Statistical Modeling (3D+t images, Markov models, dynamic Bayesian networks), and Data Fusion techniques, primarily applied to medical imaging (functional brain MRI) and temporal signal analysis in living organisms.
Laurent has co-supervised doctoral candidates such as Marion Sourty (analysis of spontaneous brain networks via fMRI), Slim Karkar (parcellization of functional MRI data), Sylvain Faisan (Markov analysis of 3D+t imaging), and Raouf Hamdan (probabilistic appearance models for shape recognition).
- Projects/Grants: ERC Starting Grant Fbrain (2008–2013), ANR Dahlia, Kidico, Vivabrain, DSIM, Rhodes, Coclico, France Life Imaging, 3D-Surg (BPI France), IHU Radial, INCEPTION (epidemiology causality), and LabEx IRMIA-funded studies.
He has expertise in automation, industrial communication networks (Profinet, Profibus, ASi), and remote process control systems.
