About
Dr. Lauren S. Gollahon is a Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Biological Sciences at Texas Tech University. She leads a research lab focused on breast cancer development, progression, and metastasis, while also testing candidate anticancer agents. Her interdisciplinary work spans collaborations with Nutritional Sciences and Animal Sciences departments, and she is affiliated with the Center of Excellence in Obesity and Cardiometabolic Research.
- B.A. in Marine Biology from Barrington College
- M.S. in Zoology from Texas A&M University
- Ph.D. in Veterinary Anatomy (toxicology of potential teratogens) from Texas A&M University
Dr. Gollahon’s research emphasizes molecular mechanisms of cancer prevention through natural products, estrogen receptor biology, and diagnostic platform development. Her lab investigates cell cycle dysregulation, aneuploidy, stem cell expression, and telomere biology in breast cancer contexts. Current projects include exploring membrane integrity in bovine leaky gut syndrome and utilizing VLPs as cancer drug delivery systems.
Her lab’s publications span microfluidic diagnostics, Nek2-targeted therapies, and telomere protein interactions, reflecting a strong focus on translational cancer research. Notably, she maintains strict policies against AI use in hypothesis generation and manuscript writing, prioritizing human creativity in scientific discovery.
Graduate students in her lab have pursued diverse careers in academia, industry, and medicine, with current students working on projects involving chlorogenic acid combinations, VLP applications, and mathematical modeling of metastatic cancer. The Gollahon Lab website provides further details on ongoing research initiatives.
