Laural Meade is a Resident Professor in Theater & Performance Studies at Occidental College, where she has served since 1998. She holds an A.B. from Occidental College and an M.F.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Her artistic practice as a playwright, director, and performer centers on historical figures, with productions across Los Angeles and alternative venues in New York, Chicago, Seattle, Phoenix, Minneapolis, The Netherlands, and Belgium. She has received critical acclaim from the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle, Los Angeles Times, and LA Weekly for her writing and productions.
Laural has also contributed to education as a guest lecturer at the USC School of Theater, University of Redlands, and as an instructor at Cal Arts, Ojai Playwrights Conference, and A.S.K. Theatre Projects. Her funding includes a MAP Fund grant from the Rockefeller Foundation, along with commissions from the Mark Taper Forum, Flintridge Foundation, and the City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department.
As a musician, she leads community and pop-up choirs for The Secret City, a collective dedicated to fostering deeper creative engagement with the world.
