Laura Wehrmann

Laura Wehrmann is an Associate Professor at the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, Stony Brook University. Her research focuses on (bio)geochemical element cycling in marine systems, spanning subseafloor sediments to glacially influenced fjords.

• Ph.D. (2010) – Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology, Bremen

Her work explores the drivers of early diagenetic processes and the interconnections between carbon, sulfur, and iron cycles. She investigates microbially mediated processes in the deep subseafloor biosphere under changing paleoenvironmental conditions.

Recent publications highlight themes in sulfur-iron cycling, methanogenesis, diagenetic mineral formation, and cold-water coral mound geochemistry. Her research combines classical geochemical methods, stable isotope analysis, and radiotracer techniques.
