Laura Straßer

Prof. Laura Straßer is a Professor of Product Design/Ceramic and Glass Design and Vice Dean of the Design Department at Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle since 2023. She holds a diploma in Product Design from Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and has led studios focused on ceramic/glass design since 2009. Her work explores material traditions, craftsmanship, and contemporary design challenges. Key roles include:

• Visiting Professor (2019-2021) and current full professor at BURG
• Scholarships at International Ceramic Research Center (Denmark) and Purdue University (USA)
• Leadership in academic senate and design education

Research interests center on material experimentation, cultural narratives in craft, and sustainable production. Recent exhibitions include MODERN NOW (Berlin 2023) and ICH und DU (Milan 2022). She teaches advanced design courses like 'Glass Making' and supervises master's theses in material innovation. Current projects involve collaborations with Derenburg Glassworks and explorations of tactile design interfaces.

Her academic contributions include over 15 exhibitions since 2019, pedagogical innovations in material workshops, and fostering interdisciplinary design practices. She currently oversees projects like 'Glass Connection' and 'Methodical Design Exercises' that integrate digital fabrication with traditional craft techniques.
