Laura Rangel-Sanchez

Dr. Laura Rangel-Sanchez is a Research Fellow at the School of Biomedical Engineering, University of Technology Sydney (UTS). She holds affiliations with the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology and collaborates with the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. Her academic journey includes a BSc in Biochemistry (Autonomous University of Madrid), MSc in Biotechnology, and PhD in Molecular Biosciences, followed by postdoctoral work in breast cancer research. She was awarded the Ramon Areces Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship (2020–2022) and contributed to grant applications like the Perpetual's IMPACT grant. Her research focuses on cancer cell biology, tissue engineering, and 3D models to advance precision medicine. She investigates mechanisms of chemotherapy resistance and cell-cell communication, leveraging molecular imaging and genomics techniques.

Dr. Rangel-Sanchez’s work spans cancer metastasis, phenotypic plasticity, and therapeutic targeting, with recent studies exploring chromatin remodeling in glioma and neural ODE models for cancer dynamics. She actively participates in academic service, including the Faculty Board of FEIT and the Postdoctoral Development Committee, which enhances postdoctoral training through workshops and interdisciplinary collaboration. She has supervised honours and PhD students and teaches the Advanced Biomedical Engineering Studio course.
