About
Laura Mason is an Associate Professor in Exercise Physiology and Co-Head of the Department of Sport and Exercise Science at Swansea University. She completed her BSc, MPhil, and PhD at Swansea and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) since 2018.
Research Interests: Laura’s work focuses on exercise interventions for clinical populations (e.g., Chronic Kidney Disease and renal transplant recipients), digit ratio (2D:4D) as a biomarker for physiological traits, and lower limb muscular imbalances in elite athletes. She also explores pedagogical innovations, particularly the use of Virtual Reality (VR) in anatomy education.
Publications highlight her expertise in sports physiology, biosocial science, and clinical exercise applications. Recent studies examine digit ratio correlations with lactate levels in footballers, VR’s role in anatomy teaching, and telemedicine impacts during the pandemic.
Collaborations include the NHS, Swansea City Football Club, and charitable organizations. She actively contributes to quality enhancement in Sport and Exercise Sciences via BASES and QAA roles.
