Laura Hall

Laura Hall is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Carleton University. She holds a Ph.D. from York University’s Faculty of Environmental Studies, an M.A. from Trent University, and a B.A. from Carleton University. Her research focuses on decolonizing methodologies through arts and land-based learning, settler colonial studies, Indigenous environmental theory, and intersectional analyses of gender, sexuality, and colonialism. She bridges Indigenous anarchist and feminist theories with sociology and social work.

Current research projects include:

• SSHRC Insight Grant (2020-ongoing): 'Clayworks and Creation'ing: Addressing and Ending Violence through Empowerment for Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA Communities' (PI, $69,000)
• SSHRC New Frontiers in Research (2019-ongoing): The Children’s Art Project (Co-PI, $250,000)
• SSHRC New Frontiers in Research (2019-ongoing): Intersectional Sports Research Project (Collaborator, $250,000)
• SSHRC New Frontiers in Research (2018-ongoing): The Creative Native (Collaborator, $250,000)

Her work emphasizes Indigenous worldviews, land-back movements, and empowering marginalized communities through creative and cultural interventions. She is actively mentoring graduate students in sociology, settler colonial studies, and environmental intersectionality.
