Laura Ghezzi

Laura Ghezzi is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at New York City College of Technology (City Tech), part of The City University of New York (CUNY). She received her Ph.D. in Mathematics from Michigan State University and a B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Genova, Italy. Her research focuses on commutative algebra with applications to algebraic geometry and computational algebra. She has held academic positions at the University of Missouri and Florida International University, and since 2007, she has been actively engaged at City Tech.

Her research explores invariants of commutative rings, reduction theory of ideals, and connections to algebraic geometry. She has authored 15+ articles in prestigious journals, often collaborating with leading mathematicians. Her work addresses foundational questions in algebraic structures, including Hilbert coefficients, Chern numbers, and monomialization techniques.

Her recent publications highlight trends in commutative algebra, such as the study of Cohen-Macaulay rings, canonical ideals, and combinatorial methods in algebraic geometry. She has also contributed to computational approaches in local rings and homological algebra.

As Co-Director of the Opening Gateways to Completion project, funded by a $3.2M Title V Cooperative Arrangement Grant (2015–2020), she promotes open digital pedagogies to enhance student success in STEM fields.
