Laura E. Fairley is an Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream at the Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, University of Toronto. She holds a Master’s in Nursing and BSc in Nursing from the University of Toronto, and a BA in Women’s Studies and Political Science from McMaster University. Her clinical background includes street outreach nursing and residential hospice palliative care, with a focus on marginalized populations, particularly homeless individuals. She currently serves as a Registered Nurse at Kensington Hospice (2017–present) and has been with the University of Toronto since 2013.
Her research and advocacy center improving access to palliative care for terminally ill homeless individuals living outdoors, alongside expertise in harm reduction, community outreach, and end-of-life care. Her work integrates psychosocial rehabilitation and bereavement support within clinical practice.
Her scholarship includes studies on nursing workflow interruptions, interprofessional opioid management programs, and supervisory practices in long-term care. She has published in the Journal of Nursing Administration and presented on university-based healthcare initiatives.
Fluent in English, Fairley’s contributions span clinical practice, education, and community advocacy. She leads initiatives addressing systemic barriers to healthcare access for vulnerable groups.
