Laura Dean

Laura Dean is a Lecturer in Experiential Development and Graduate Education at Monash University, affiliated with the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Centre for Medicine Use and Safety. She serves as Course Director for the Graduate Certificate in Pharmacy Practice and coordinates units on Palliative care and Clinical educator preparation. Her research focuses on pharmacy education, geriatric pharmacotherapy, and medication safety in aged care settings.

Her work includes innovative approaches like telehealth for elderly patient care, engaging older adults as instructors, and developing medication regimen simplification tools. She has contributed to reforming pharmacy practice models in aged care facilities and reviewed international pharmacist prescribing rights policies.

Key awards include the 2012 Faculty Award for Programs that Enhance Student Learning. She led the 'Engendering and Enacting Empathy' project (2018–2020), exploring empathy training for pharmacists. Her grants and collaborations emphasize interprofessional education and patient-centered care.

Laura’s research spans 16 years, with publications addressing medication safety, pharmacy education innovation, and policy developments. She actively participates in the Centre for Medicine Use and Safety, advancing medication use quality and safety initiatives.
