Dr. Laura Callis is an Associate Professor in the Science and Math department at Curry College. She co-leads the NSF-funded DISCUS-IS Project, aiming to improve inclusive statistical education for neurodivergent students. Her research focuses on broadening participation in mathematics through curriculum design and policy analysis. Dr. Callis holds a Ph.D. from Boston University, an M.A. from George Washington University, and a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. She previously taught in Boston public schools, China, and other Boston-area colleges. She served as Coordinator of the Faculty Center for Innovation at Curry (2018–2020) and was a 2024 Visiting Researcher at the University of Chile's Center for Mathematical Modeling Education Lab.
Her education background includes studies on mathematics courses for future elementary teachers. Key research interests include instructional practices, curriculum development, and policies promoting equity in STEM education. Her work often integrates social justice frameworks and data analysis to address systemic barriers in education.
Publications span topics like inclusive pedagogy, teacher licensure policy, and pandemic-era academic community strategies.
