Laura Burleson

Laura Burleson is an Assistant Professor and Interior Design Program Director in the Department of Human Sciences at Sam Houston State University (SHSU). She holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Design from Texas Tech University, and M.S. and B.S. degrees in Interior Design from Oklahoma State University. Her research focuses on analyzing spaces for elderly individuals with Dementia and Parkinson’s Disease, emphasizing accessible and therapeutic design solutions.

Professional affiliations include membership in the American Society of Interior Designers (Texas Gulf Coast Chapter), the Interior Design Educators Council, and the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. She oversees the Interior Design Program within the College of Health Sciences, contributing to curriculum development and student mentorship.

Dr. Burleson’s work bridges academic and practical design, addressing urgent needs in healthcare environments and aging populations. Her educational background and industry connections position her as a leader in human-centered design methodologies.
