Laura Baudot is the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Oberlin College and affiliated with the Oberlin Center for Convergence (StudiOC). She holds a PhD from Princeton University (2005) and a BA from Wellesley College (1997). Her research focuses on 18th-century British literature, with particular interests in book history, visual culture, and intersections between science and art.
Her teaching innovatively integrates special collections and art museums, such as library lab sessions for studying 18th-century book production and art museum visits to analyze visual-literary connections. She currently chairs the Educational Plans and Policies Committee (EPPC) and is writing a book on concepts of empty space in 18th-century English literary experimentation.
Her recent publications explore topics like scientific narratives in literature, Gothic elements in Austen, Swift's satire, and Walpole's Gothic works. She collaborates on initiatives like the ACRL volume on teaching with special collections.
