Lasse Thomassen

Lasse Thomassen is a Professor of Politics at Queen Mary University of London, within the School of Politics and International Relations. His academic career includes roles at the University of Essex, University of Limerick, and fellowships at the Centro de Estudios Políticos y Constitucionales in Madrid (2008–2011) and the University of Copenhagen (2019–2021). He currently serves as Deputy Director (Training and Cohort Development) for the London Interdisciplinary Social Science ESRC Doctoral Training Partnership.

Thomassen holds a BA from the University of Copenhagen, an MA, and a PhD in Ideology and Discourse Analysis from the University of Essex. His research focuses on radical democratic theory, identity politics, representation, and the work of Jürgen Habermas. He has authored books such as *British Multiculturalism and the Politics of Representation* (2017) and edited volumes like *The Derrida-Habermas Reader* (2006). His work explores themes like populism, agonistic pluralism, and the intersection of deconstruction with political analysis.

Teaching includes undergraduate courses on modern political thought and radical politics. His recent publications engage with post-foundationalist approaches to liberal democracy, Ernesto Laclau’s theory of representation, and the analytical divide between continental and analytic political philosophy. Thomassen actively contributes to public discourse through blogs and interviews on topics like left populism and identity politics.

His supervision of PhD students addresses areas such as post-structuralist political theory, radical democracy, and discourse analysis.
