Lars Rüpke

Prof. Dr. Lars Rüpke holds a professorship at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel and co-leads the cluster of excellence 'The Future Ocean'. He earned his PhD in 2004 from IFM-GEOMAR and has held senior research positions at PGP Oslo prior to his current role.

Rüpke's research explores geological processes including subduction zone dynamics, mantle serpentinization, hydrothermal systems, and ocean floor geodynamics. His work integrates field observations with numerical modeling to understand deep-water cycles and mineral resource formation.

His publications demonstrate expertise in geophysical modeling techniques applied to mid-ocean ridge systems, transform fault mechanics, and carbon sequestration strategies. Recent research tackles coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical processes in seafloor mineralization.
