Lars Ole Sauerberg

Lars Ole Sauerberg is a distinguished Professor of Literature in English at the University of Southern Denmark's Institute for Literature, Media and Cultural Studies, where he has held a professorship since 1992. His academic career spans over five decades, beginning as a Teaching Assistant at Århus University in 1973, progressing through Lecturer and Senior Lecturer positions at Odense University, and culminating in his current professorship following his Dr.phil. degree in 1986. He has held significant administrative roles including Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Odense University (1990-92) and Dean of the Faculty of Humanities (1993-97).

His educational background includes a Cand. phil. (BA) in English Language and Literature (1973) and Cand. mag. (MA) in English and German Languages and Literatures (1975), both from Århus University. Sauerberg has maintained active engagement with academic governance as a member of the SDU University Senate, Humanities Faculty Board, and English Study Board.

Sauerberg's research spans multiple interconnected domains with particular emphasis on British literature, 20th century book history, crime fiction, and the innovative intersection of literature and music. His current research program focuses on Book and Cognition, Intermediality, Music and Literature, and the Verse Novel, demonstrating his commitment to interdisciplinary approaches. He leads or participates in research initiatives including NTSMB, Fiction, and The Gutenberg Parenthesis Research Forum at the University of Southern Denmark.

His work frequently examines historical representation (especially post-9/11 literature and historiographical fiction), musical-literary connections, and genre evolution in contemporary British and American writing.
