Lars Anders Tomter

Lars Anders Tomter (b. 1959) is a Professor of Viola at the Norwegian Academy of Music and Artistic Director of the Risør Chamber Music Festival. Recognized as \"The Giant of the Nordic Viola\" (The Strad), he won major international competitions in 1984 (Budapest) and 1986 (Lille) and has performed with leading orchestras worldwide.

Education:
Studied violin/viola at Oslo Conservatory of Music (now Norwegian Academy of Music) and with Max Rostal and Sándor Vegh.

Research Focus:
His expertise spans viola performance, chamber music, and music transcription. He actively commissions/records viola concertos to expand the instrument's repertoire.
