Larry Salomon is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Race and Resistance Studies at San Francisco State University (SFSU), part of the College of Ethnic Studies. He has taught at SFSU since 1994, focusing on courses such as “Grassroots Organizing in Communities of Color” and “Race, Sports and Society.” He is a founding faculty member of the Race and Resistance Studies Department and served as the first Faculty Coordinator for the Metro Academy Program in Ethnic Studies.
Salomon has a 25-year association with the Center for Third World Organizing (CTWO), including a decade on its Board of Directors and contributions to its publication Third Force through his “Movement History” columns. His doctoral dissertation, Leading with Race: The Center for Third World Organizing and the Politics of Community Organizing, examines CTWO’s early history. He also contributed to the anthology Roots of Justice: Stories of Organizing in Communities of Color.
Salomon emphasizes student activism and community engagement, connecting students with Bay Area organizing projects. Hundreds of his students have joined or staffed community organizations, many through training with CTWO. He previously served two terms on the Executive Board of the SFSU Chapter of the California Faculty Association.
