Larry R. Hearld

Larry R. Hearld is a Professor in the Department of Health Services Administration at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), holding concurrent roles as Director of Research in the School of Health Professions and Senior Scientist in multiple UAB research centers, including the Center for AIDS Research and the UAB Center for Study of Community Health. He holds a PhD in Health Care Related, Health Communication from the University of Michigan's School of Public Health (2009), with earlier degrees in Psychology and Mathematics.

His research focuses on interorganizational relationships in healthcare, implementation science, and healthcare innovation adoption. Key topics include the impact of organizational networks on patient outcomes and the barriers/facilitators of evidence-based practice adoption. He has authored over 260 peer-reviewed articles, with recent work emphasizing telehealth engagement, lupus decision aids, and disparities in cancer care.

Dr. Hearld has secured over 27 extramural grants, including NIH-funded initiatives on HIV implementation science, surgical disparities, and community health partnerships.
