Lara Walker is a Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Sussex, affiliated with the Sussex European Institute. She joined the university in August 2013 and was promoted in May 2017.
- Education: PhD, LLM (by research), and LLB from the University of Aberdeen; Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) in 2015.
Her research focuses on cross-border family law at regional and international levels, with a specific emphasis on maintenance recovery and civil aspects of child abduction under EU and Hague Convention frameworks. She has conducted empirical research on Brussels IIbis Regulation, 2007 Hague Child Support Convention, and ECtHR case law.
Recent projects include Nuffield Foundation-funded research on EU child abduction (2014-2016) and contributions to the 15th edition of the seminal text Cheshire, North and Fawcett: Private International Law. Her work explores tensions between EU law and international family law instruments, including Brexit-related implications.
- Scientific Awards: Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2015).
She supervises PhD students in international family law and leads the CLOCK team. Active memberships include the Child Support Worldwide Network and the Brexit Family Law Group.
