Lara Shipley is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Art, Art History, and Design at Michigan State University's College of Arts and Letters. She holds a MFA from Arizona State University and a Bachelors in Photojournalism from the University of Missouri. Her work focuses on rural culture, identity, mythology, and the intersection of photography with evidence and narrative.
Her collaborative project Devil’s Promenade has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including at the National Museum of Women in the Arts and GuatePhoto. Her photographs appear in Harper’s Magazine, British Journal of Photography, and NPR, among others. Shipley founded SEARCH PARTY PRESS, a photography book publisher, and recently released Spook Light Chronicles.
She previously worked as an online photography producer for National Geographic and as a freelance photographer in Washington DC.
