Lanei M. Rodemeyer

Lanei M. Rodemeyer is a Professor of Philosophy at Duquesne University, affiliated with the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts. A scholar of Husserlian phenomenology, feminist and gender theories, and the philosophy of time, she holds a Ph.D. from SUNY Stony Brook (2001), an M.A. from the same institution (1996), and a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame (1989).

Her research focuses on integrating Husserl’s phenomenology with feminist and queer theories, particularly regarding embodiment and temporality. Key contributions include Intersubjective Temporality: It’s About Time (2006) and Lou Sullivan Diaries (1970–1980) and Theories of Sexual Embodiment (2018), which intertwine historical documents with philosophical analysis. Her courses span existentialism, phenomenology, and transgender studies.

Rodemeyer’s articles address themes like eating disorders, hormone treatment critiques, and Husserl’s inner time-consciousness. She has received grants from DAAD, BAEF, and NEH, and her work bridges philosophy with trans and feminist methodologies. Her presentations include lectures at Heidelberg University and Kent University on time, embodiment, and phenomenology.
