About
Lance Terada, M.D., is a Professor of Internal Medicine and Chief of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He holds the Dr. Carey G. King, Jr. and Dr. Henry M. Winans, Sr. Chair in Internal Medicine. His clinical expertise spans general pulmonology and pulmonary disorders, complemented by research in cellular signaling mechanisms controlling cell fate and mechanical processes in vascular and lung epithelial systems.
Dr. Terada earned his B.S. in Biophysics from Amherst College (MA) and M.D. from the University of Hawaii. He completed internal medicine residency at Case Western Reserve University and pulmonary fellowships/research at the University of Colorado. Board certified in Internal Medicine (1986), Pulmonary Medicine (1988), and Critical Care Medicine (2010), he joined UTSW in 1999.
His research focuses on cellular signaling pathways involving reactive oxygen species (ROS), Nox enzymes, and transcription factors like Aiolos. Key areas include metastasis suppression via p66Shc, HIV-1 Tat's dual Nox signaling, and endothelial cell migration mechanisms. His work bridges vascular biology with cancer biology, particularly lung cancer's epithelial dynamics.
Notable awards include the American Heart Association's Established Investigator Award and the Texas Super Doctor recognition (2012–present). He leads the Terada Lab, which investigates vascular and lung biology, and actively collaborates with organizations like the American Thoracic Society. His teaching excellence is recognized through UTSW's Faculty Teaching Award.
