Lance Jenott

Lance Jenott is a Senior Lecturer in Classics and Religious Studies at Washington University, serving as Director of Religious Studies. He holds a PhD from Princeton University. His research focuses on Ancient Christianity, Second Temple Judaism, Biblical Studies, and Classical civilizations, with expertise in Greek and Coptic languages. He co-authored The Monastic Origins of the Nag Hammadi Codices (2015) and authored a Hermeneia Series commentary on the Gospel of Judas (forthcoming).

Recent courses include a Freshman Seminar on Sexuality in Early Christianity, analyzing teachings from Jesus, Paul, early church leaders, and apocryphal texts. His work integrates contemporary gender and sexuality theories with historical analysis.

Publications include articles on Coptic texts, manuscript culture, and monastic environments, as well as translations of early Christian apocrypha. Jenott’s interdisciplinary approach bridges religious studies, classics, and textual analysis.
