About
Lance De Long is Professor of Physics and Associate Director of the Center for Advanced Materials at the University of Kentucky. He earned his PhD from UC San Diego (1977) and has held positions at UVa, Argonne National Lab, and NSF. An APS Fellow, his research focuses on condensed matter physics and magnetic materials.
His experimental work investigates artificial spin ice, superconductivity, thin-film magnetism, and quantum materials. Recent studies utilize X-ray orbital angular momentum techniques to resolve chiral orbital currents and antiferromagnetic configurations.
De Long oversees labs in CP and ASTeCC buildings and has led federally funded projects including NSF and DoE grants. His team develops novel magnetic nanostructures and advanced characterization methods.
