Lan Li

Dr. Lan Li is a Lecturer and Deputy Director at the Irish Institute for Chinese Studies (IICS) at University College Dublin (UCD). She holds a BA and MA in Chinese Language and Literature from Renmin University, Beijing, and a PhD in Social Anthropology from Queen’s University Belfast, funded by the Royal Anthropological Institute. Her research focuses on Chinese popular religion (particularly Nuo rituals), late Qing history, and cross-cultural business comparisons between China and the West.

Dr. Li has held academic roles at Queen’s University Belfast and the UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland (Deputy Director since 2010). She is a member of the British and Irish associations for Chinese studies. Her scholarship bridges anthropology, history, and pedagogy, with notable works on Chinese religious practices, business cultural dynamics, and curriculum localization for teaching Chinese in Ireland.

Her publications include monographs on Nuo rituals, co-authored analyses of Sino-Irish business relations, and edited textbooks for Irish secondary education. She has contributed to international conferences on cultural heritage, language pedagogy, and comparative studies. Dr. Li’s work emphasizes intercultural dialogue, evidenced by her leadership in developing Chinese language teaching materials tailored to Irish educational contexts.
