About
L. Hirschberg is an Assistant Professor in the Engineering Fluid Dynamics (EFD) group at the University of Twente, part of the Thermal & Fluid Engineering department within the Faculty of Engineering Technology. His research focuses on aeroacoustics, including investigations into self-sustained pressure pulsations in solid rocket motors and indirect combustion noise.
Education:
- MSc in Applied Physics (specialization: physics of transport in fluids) from Eindhoven University of Technology
- PhD in Fluid Mechanics from CentraleSupélec (Université Paris-Saclay), with research on rocket motor pressure pulsations in collaboration with ArianeGroup, VKI, and CentraleSupélec.
Research interests include fluid dynamics, acoustics, vorticity injection, and eddy models. His work bridges fundamental fluid mechanics with aerospace engineering applications. From 2019–2021, he was a DLR-DAAD Postdoctoral Fellow at the German Aerospace Center, studying combustion noise. Later, at Imperial College London (2021–2023), he explored aeroacoustic properties of perforated plates.
Affiliations: Member of the Engineering Fluid Dynamics (ET-TFE-EFD) group. Expertise spans physics-driven acoustics modeling and solid-state response analysis.
