L. A. McElwee serves as an Adjunct Professor at Capital University Law School, where he has taught for 20 years in a part-time capacity.

Professor McElwee's research focuses on Trust and Probate Law and Ancient Law. As an established classical scholar, he integrates Classical Studies and Legal History into his work, demonstrated through his leadership of Globe Tours, Inc.—organizing educational expeditions across Greece, Italy, Turkey, and the Middle East. His expertise bridges historical legal systems with contemporary probate practice.

Outside academia, he actively participates in cliff and springboard diving.
