L Duquette-Rury

Lauren Duquette-Rury is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Wayne State University's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, specializing in international migration, citizenship, and state-society relations. Her award-winning book Exit and Voice: The Paradox of Cross-Border Politics in Mexico (UC Press, 2019) received triple discipline honors for analyzing migrant participation in social welfare provision and its impact on local democracy. Current research examines naturalization patterns under immigration enforcement threats and vigilantism in migrant-sending communities.

Publications investigate transnational governance mechanisms, including Mexico's 3×1 Program matching migrant remittances for community projects, and health impacts of immigration enforcement. Methodological expertise combines qualitative fieldwork with quantitative analysis of migration datasets across North American contexts.

Honors include Wayne State's Academy of Scholars Junior Faculty Award (2020), Career Development Chair (2022), and Excellence in Teaching Award (2023). Research funded by Russell Sage Foundation, NSF, Ford Foundation, and Carnegie Corporation.
