About
Dr. Kyosung Choo is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Youngstown State University's Rayen School of Engineering. He holds a PhD from KAIST, MS from KAIST, and BS from Handong University. Prior to YSU, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Maryland's Center for Environmental Energy Engineering.
Research focuses on thermal phenomena in additive manufacturing, two-phase flow systems, and electronics cooling. Key areas include heat transfer optimization in 3D printing, jet impingement for thermal management, and energy-efficient data center design.
Recent publications emphasize thermal modeling of metal additive processes (67% of 2022-2025 output) and battery thermal-electrical dynamics (33%). Analysis shows consistent innovation in experimental thermal characterization methods.
- Outstanding Research Award (Brain Korea 21, 2010)
- Outstanding Academic Award (KAIST, 2011)
Teaches heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics. Leads NSF-funded projects on battery thermal safety and directs the Thermal Systems Laboratory.
