Kyle Motl is Assistant Professor of Double Bass and Contemporary Instrumental Performance at the University of Minnesota. A bassist, composer, and improviser, he holds a DMA from UC San Diego where he studied with Mark Dresser and Anthony Davis. His creative work spans solo, ensemble, and collaborative contexts with groups including the Treesearch trio.
Research/Creative Interests: Focuses on experimental bass techniques, contemporary composition, interdisciplinary improvisation, and jazz innovation. Authored the book Bells Plucked From Air on harmonic techniques for double bass.
