Kyle Gibson is a Lecturer of Social Sciences in the Department of Environmental Studies at Yale-NUS College in Singapore (2022-2025). He earned a PhD in Environmental Studies and a Graduate Diploma in Asian Studies from York University in Toronto (2021) and holds prior degrees in World History (BA, MA). His interdisciplinary research bridges human geography, critical development studies, environmental sociology, and Asian studies to explore the global political ecology of capitalism.
Research Focus:
Kyle’s work critically examines socio-ecological tensions arising from South Korea’s 20th-century capitalist development, addressing environmental degradation, food dependence, and societal discontent. He is currently finalizing his book manuscript Subsumption as Development: A World-Ecological Critique of the South Korean “Miracle” (Brill, 2026) and preparing articles interrogating “capitalist natures” debates in critical human geography and political ecology.
