Kyle Duncan is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Vancouver Island University (VIU). He joined the faculty in Fall 2020 and currently teaches first-year chemistry (CHEM 112) and contributes to upper-level analytical chemistry courses. His research focuses on bioanalytical mass spectrometry, including metabolomics and lipidomics, with an emphasis on spatial mapping of small molecules in tissues and investigating metabolite/lipid changes linked to health and disease.
Education: BSc from VIU and PhD from the University of Victoria (UVic), with his doctoral work based at VIU's Applied Environmental Research labs. Postdoctoral experience includes 4.5 years as a senior researcher at Uppsala University in Sweden.
Research interests span novel analytical techniques, ambient ionization methods, and custom instrumentation development. He is actively recruiting UVic graduate students for collaborative projects.
