Kristīne Rolle

Kristīne Rolle serves as a Visiting Researcher at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU). Her academic work focuses on anthropological perspectives of Latvian society, particularly examining the interplay between kinship structures and state implementation processes.

Her research interests center on social anthropology, rural household lifestyle and economy, and kinship and family structures in contemporary Latvia. Her work bridges theoretical anthropology with practical studies of how state policies interact with traditional social structures.

Rolle has contributed to significant research projects including the INTERFRAME-LV (2019–2021), RELATE.LV (2019–2020), and the Horizon 2020 INFORM project (2016-2019), demonstrating consistent engagement with both national and international research initiatives focused on state-society relations.

Her recent publication Kinship and the implementation of the state in modern Latvia (2024), co-authored with Klāvs Sedlenieks and others, represents a significant contribution to understanding how traditional kinship networks interact with modern state structures in Latvia.

As an educator, she teaches core anthropology courses including Anthropological Research Methods, Principles of Ethnographic Work Practice, and Social Anthropology, helping to develop the next generation of social scientists in Latvia.
