Kristy Howells

Dr Kristy Howells is a Reader in Children's Health, Sport Pedagogy and Physical Education within the Department of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Kent. She is based at the Canterbury campus in the School of Sciences, Psychology, Arts and Humanities, Computing, Engineering and Sports.

Her research expertise spans several key areas:

• Physical Activity Interventions
• Physical Activity and Mental Health
• Public Health and Nutrition
• Sport Pedagogy
• Physical Education
• Children's Health

Dr Howells serves as Chair of the Early Years Special Interest Group for the International Association of Physical Education in Higher Education (AIESEP), demonstrating her leadership in early childhood physical education research.

Her notable achievements include:

• World Masters Track Champion for Individual Sprints
• World Masters Silver Medalist (2019, 2022, 2023)
• National Para-cycling Champion (2014, 2016)

She is also an ambassador for the Children's Alliance and a member of the Cross Party Parliamentary Group on Fit and Healthy Childhood, actively translating research into policy recommendations.
